DESCRIPTION: FINANCIAL ANALYST - NABU OPERATIONS
North American Business Unit
Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. is an international mining and natural resources company. Our Company is organized through three geographic business units:
The North American business unit is comprised of six iron ore mines owned or managed in Michigan, Minnesota and Canada and two coking coal mining complexes located in West Virginia and Alabama. The Asia Pacific business unit is comprised of two iron ore mining complexes in Western Australia and a 45% economic interest in a coking and thermal coal mine in Queensland, Australia. The Latin America business unit includes a 30% interest in the Amapá Project, an iron ore project in the state of Amapá in Brazil.
Other projects under development include a biomass production plant in Michigan and Ring of Fire chromite properties in Ontario, Canada. Over recent years, Cliffs has been executing a strategy designed to achieve scale in the mining industry and focused on serving the world's largest and fastest growing steel markets
Principal Functions: Supports NABU Assistant Controller Operations by providing assistance with day-to-day mine controller accounting issues, policy development and enforcement, continual improvement in the financial closing process, and other organizational support.
Specific Responsibilities by Priority:
· Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting for business units for the income statement, SG&A, balance sheet narrative surrounding unusual issues and significant transactions needed to help run the business.
· Prepare technical accounting position papers, including updates to impairment analysis, asset retirement obligations and others as required.
· Assist in the planning, organization and execution of controllers conferences.
· Work with the mine accounting staff to remediate deficiencies identified by both internal and external audit.
· Development and document procedures that comply with company policy and regulatory requirements.
· Work with the mine accounting staff to ensure consistency in accounting and reporting throughout NABU.
· Facilitate internal and external audit requirements on mine accounting issues.
· Assist as needed with aspects of NABU budgeting and forecasting.
· Prepare ad-hoc analysis and reports and assist in other departmental ad-hoc projects.
· Participate in annual training to continue to develop skill set.

Education Needed: B.S. in Accounting, Business Administration, Information Technology or equivalent. CMA, CPA or MBA desirable.
Experience Needed: 3-5 years accounting/finance experience
