DESCRIPTION:  ACCOUNTANT – FINANCIAL REPORTING 

Cliffs Natural Resources is an international mining and natural resources company. We are the largest producer of iron ore pellets in North America, a major supplier of direct-shipping lump and fines iron ore out of Australia and a significant producer of metallurgical coal. The North American business unit is comprised of six iron ore mines located in Michigan, Minnesota and Eastern Canada, and two coking coal mining complexes located in West Virginia and Alabama. The Asia Pacific business unit is comprised of two iron ore mining complexes in Western Australia and a 45% economic interest in a coking and thermal coal mine in Queensland, Australia. The South American business unit includes a 30% interest in the Amapá Project, an iron ore project in the state of Amapá in Brazil, as well as a number of smaller greenfield projects not yet in production.

Over recent years, Cliffs has been executing a strategy designed to achieve scale in the mining industry and focused on serving the world's largest and fastest growing steel markets.  

Principal Functions:

This position will be responsible for assisting in the coordination and timely filing of the Company’s SEC reports, including the quarterly 10-Q and annual 10-K filings. The person will assist as a liaison between Corporate Accounting, our business operating units, other corporate departments and internal and external legal counsel. Responsibilities include coordinating, preparing and supporting financial information and disclosures for the Company’s financial reports and SEC filings. In addition, this position is responsible for interpreting new and existing GAAP and SEC guidelines, coordinating the information with the business operating units and other corporate departments and maintaining open, active lines of communication with management, operating units, other corporate departments and legal counsel.  

Other responsibilities of this position will include gathering, preparing, reporting, and analyzing the monthly financial results of the Company and its business units, maintaining a working knowledge of accounting standards, providing summarized financial information to management and working on other special projects on an as needed basis. 

Specific Responsibilities by Priority:

·         Coordinates and consolidates accurate and consistent information for inclusion in the Company’s financial reporting disclosures.

·         Assists in drafting financial statements and related disclosures including footnotes and management’s discussion and analysis (MD&A) for inclusion in Company SEC Form 10-K and 10-Q filings.

·         Completes financial reporting and disclosure checklists, as required for financial reports and SEC filings.

·         Assists in the review of XBRL tagging that is required for Company SEC Form 10-K and 10-Q filings.

·         Compiles and organizes documentation from Corporate Accounting, business operating units and other corporate departments to support the related financial statement disclosures.

·         Applies knowledge of new and existing GAAP and SEC guidelines as well as and Company procedures.

·         Analyzes financial reports and records, making recommendations as appropriate relative to the reported data.

·         Reviews and verifies the accuracy, completeness and consistency of reported data.

·         Provides assistance to business operating unit accounting personnel and Cleveland Office personnel regarding accounting and financial reporting matters.

·         Prepares quarterly and year-end audit schedules in support of Company’s annual audit.

·         Assists in the review of the quarterly earnings release that is prepared by the Investor Relations department.

·         Coordinates and consolidates financial information included within the Company’s Sustainability Report that is published on an annual basis.

·         Interacts with officers, department heads, public accountants, actuaries, insurance providers, internal and external legal counsel and other service providers as appropriate. 

Education Needed: Minimum Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.  

Experience Needed: 2-4 years public accounting experience; CPA and/or MBA desired but not required.
