Job SummaryAs a Senior Officer in Risk Management within the Risk Management Europe team, you will take end-to-end credit risk responsibility for assigned financial institutions, transactions and portfolio coverage across Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus, including Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Moldova and Romania. Acting as a risk-side transaction leader, you will independently assess material risks, formulate and defend risk opinions, contribute to transaction structuring and ensure appropriate risk protections. You will also take responsibility for ongoing portfolio and country monitoring, working closely with Investment Management and other functions to support sound and timely investment decisions. This position combines strategic analysis with hands-on engagement, requiring deep understanding of regional markets and strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. You will contribute directly to Finance in Motion’s impact-driven objectives by maintaining robust risk frameworks and supporting sustainable investments in emerging markets.
Key responsibilities: - Lead comprehensive risk assessments of financial institutions across all financial profile aspects, including capitalization, asset quality, market, and liquidity dimensions as well as governance and operating environment, for new and existing investments in assigned countries.
- Take end-to-end ownership of assigned transactions from the risk management side, including planning and leading due diligence, performing comprehensive credit analysis, identifying material risks and forming an independent risk position.
- Formulate, document and defend timely, clear, concise and well-reasoned credit risk opinions, including identification of material risks, relevant mitigants and a clear recommendation to decision-makers.
- Ensure transactions comply with the company's risk appetite, applicable limits, policies and credit risk requirements.
- Perform regular and ad hoc internal ratings for the assigned portfolio/financial institutions and outstanding exposures.
- Review transaction documentation and ensure that approved investment structures and credit risk protections are appropriately reflected in the legal documentation.
- Take ownership of ongoing and proactive credit risk monitoring for assigned financial institutions and countries, including analysis of financial and other risk indicators, internal ratings, Early Warning Signals and monitoring classifications; identify emerging risks and initiate appropriate mitigation actions.
- Continuously track and analyze market developments, including macroeconomic, regulatory, and sector-specific trends in Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania, and assess their implications for financial institutions and portfolio credit risk.
- Collaborate effectively and constructively with internal teams, ensuring seamless coordination with Investment Management and other departments and providing alternative structuring advice to mitigate elevated risks.
- Prepare and deliver, timely, concise, and comprehensive risk-related communications and presentations to key stakeholders, both internal and external. Mentor and coach junior team members, fostering knowledge transfer and professional growth within the risk management function.
- Contribute to Risk Management and company-wide initiatives as a credit risk subject matter expert, including the further development of risk processes, methodologies and tools.
What we expect:- University degree in economics, finance, business administration, or a related discipline.
- Solid professional experience in risk assessment of financial institutions (banks, leasing, microfinance), gained in commercial/investment banks, development finance institutions, rating agencies, consulting firms, or regulatory bodies, with hands-on experience relevant to FI credit assessment and decision-making.
- Strong understanding of banking regulation and financial-sector dynamics; experience in Eastern European and/or South Caucasus markets, particularly Romania, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Armenia, is a distinct advantage.
- Sound knowledge of macroeconomic indicators and their implications for financial institutions.
- Strong independent judgment and demonstrated ability to take and defend well-reasoned credit risk positions.
- Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal); proficiency in Ukrainian, Georgian, Russian and/or Armenian is strongly preferred.
- Strong team player with the ability to work confidently, with integrity, and with limited supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills for engaging confidently with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent transactions, portfolio responsibilities and deadlines effectively.
- Willingness to travel within the assigned region as required and subject to company travel and security policies.
